There is No Failure… Only Experiences!
There are times when you set out to accomplish a goal or achieve a purpose that you may come up short or missing your mark altogether. This is what we call “failure”. Even worse than that, you may allow yourself to internalize the failure of that specific instance with BEING a failure. There is a big difference between the two.
One of the greatest books I read several years ago that helped me with not confusing failure with being a failure was “Failing Forward” by Leadership Expert and Best – Selling Author John C. Maxwell. That was the first time that I was given a different definition of failure. Once I understood that what I was dealing with was a series of events or experiences, I was able to continue to move forward and not internalize what I was experiencing with who I am.
Understanding much more now and knowing that the Law of Attraction says that whatever you think about, meditate on or rehearse, you will attract more of that to yourself. In other words, if I am constantly meditating and rehearsing failure, I will continually draw to myself more mishap or more failure.
One of my favorite hero’s from history is the forward failing of Abraham Lincoln. I often say, “You don’t know what a person is carrying in them while they are failing forward!” Take a look at his track record:
- Failed in business in 1831
- Defeated for legislature in 1832
- Failed in business again in 1833
- Elected to legislature in 1834
- Sweetheart died in 1835
- Nervous breakdown in 1836
- Defeated for speaker in 1838
- Defeated for land officer in 1843
- Defeated for congress in 1843
- Elected to congress in 1846
- Defeated for re-election in 1848
- Defeated for senate in 1855
- Defeated for vice president in 1856
- Defeated for senate in 1858
- Elected President in 1860
With everything he was experiencing which we would call failure–President of the United States was in him. While he suffered a nervous breakdown, President of the United States was still in him.
So then, while you are experiencing what you are going through, don’t forget that your destiny is in you! Everything that you need to succeed is already in you! No matter how bad you may feel, no matter how broke you may be the ability to prosper is in you now.
So go ahead, make up your mind today that you are going to fail forward. Decree and declare today that you won’t let a misstep or a mishap stop you from fulfilling your divine destiny.
