Today I Take Action On My Next Small Step!
When you are planning for your future and the things that you would like to see come to pass, it is very easy to get stuck in a holding pattern, unable to move forward. Sometimes you know what you want, you may even know what you need to do to get there, but for some unknown reason to you, you are not doing it.
Much is being discovered in our time about the important influence your subconscious mind have on your day-to-day decisions. We procrastinate for a reason. In the past, many thought it was good to procrastinate, then when you are out of time you can put all your energy and effort into the project. Well, maybe you can recall from your college days or an important work project, that is not quite the way to do it.
When we are using adrenaline to help us do what needs to be done, we are not doing our best work, and perhaps, that is part of the reason we wait until the last minute so that we can always cushion the outcome with the excuse, “This is not my best work, I didn’t have enough time.”
Here are some of the problems that I have found to contribute to procrastination and being stuck:
- What is now being calld “Analysis paralysis.” Analyzing something until you become paralyzed with confusion.
- Perfectionism. Wanting everything to perfect before you begin.
- Overwhelm. Looking at the entire project as one huge project and thinking that is the way you must tackle it.
- Self-worth. When your self-worth is attached to what you do and the approval rating of the outcome, this will cause you to procrastinate every time as all of the above come into play.
Solution: When you are faced with a large project, or getting starting on your next big move for your life, if the entire project is intimidating, break it up in to small pieces. Sometimes you may have to break it up into very small pieces in order to move.
Today, take action on the next small piece, the next very small piece that you feel comfortable with. This will allow you to put your best energy and focus to work for you. When you complete this very small piece, go to the next small piece, and then the next and the next. Before you know it that big project, your next big move is complete!
Take the pressure off of yourself–just take action on the next small step. I call this taking a teeny-tiny step, just get moving and keep moving!
