I wanted to take a moment to say happy Father’s to all the fathers.

FATHERS DAY 2

There is nothing so precious in this earth as a father who is present, gentle, kind and supportive. To everyone that has been blessed to have a real dad, make sure to show him lots of love on this day.

At the age of 10 I lost my father. I remember going through the very painful process of searching for “Daddy”. My first husband, (The late Mr. Frank Preston Jr.) was 20 years my senior. I was seeking safety and a sense of security. I won’t get into all the statistics right now, but it has been reported that women who grow up without fathers often struggle with feelings of low self-esteem and unworthiness. Iyanla Vanzant calls these women “daddyless daughters” in a special two-part show for “Oprah’s Lifeclass,”.

Iyanla goes on to say, “the role of father is to teach his daughter how to be in a nonsexual, intimate relationship with a man. In fact, it’s the first relationship a daughter has with a man and therefore teaches her how a woman should be treated. However, if Dad leaves, Iyanla explains that the daughter lacks that healthy model and often seeks to fill that void in a variety of ways.”

I know firsthand that nothing and no one can fill the void of a missing father except God. The journey to finally be okay being “daddyless” took lots of introspection and healing eventually allowing me to embraced the unconditional love of God as my father. I am thankful for my spiritual father Bishop Fred Sanders and my Apostle, LaFayette Scales, both have played an important role in my spiritual development.

FATHERS DAY 3

To everyone who has known the joy of either being a father or received the love of a father, you have so much to be thankful for. Oh, and I can’t close without a word of encouragement to all the mothers that are with yourself raising your children. Stay strong– your children need you and they adore you it’s true! I can only imagine what it’s like to raise children with yourself. You are awesome.
